York Fair, also known as America’s first and oldest fair, was first held in 1765 (11 years before the nation was founded) in York, Pennsylvania.

The amount of history that this Fair has been through is amazing; they truly are the epitome of American culture and pride.

Just to name a few historical events:

  • American Revolution: troops passing through camped at the fairgrounds
  • War of 1812
  • Civil War: the fair had to close from 1862-1865 because the grounds were turned into a temporary hospital for soldiers
  • World War I
  • Influenza Outbreak of 1918: the fair has to close gain in 1918 due to the outbreak, which killed 166 people in York!
  • World War II
  • Vietnam War

Today, York Fair is open for 10 days, with the grounds and Expo Center in-use year round. The fair features everything from livestock to butter sculptures, live musical entertainment, hypnotists, lumberjack shows, circus acts, strongman competitions and more!
